Hey, Queen!

I'm Luci, wife, mom of 4, author, coach, and founder of PSSY PWRD. From an early age (from my first clear childhood memory, actually), I began feeling disgust towards my body that turned into sexual shame and a deep, visceral rejection of my femininity and sexuality. As the daughter of an evangelical minister, I was raised to believe my body had so much power to make men stumble, I should keep as much of it covered at all times, and that exploring my own pleasure was severely frowned upon by God himself. After all, my body was "not my own," and should be reserved for procreation and the pleasure of whatever man I'd one day marry. God forbid I should make anyone stumble in the meantime, and just in case, maybe I shouldn't smile at guys or get too close to them, either!

The fear and shame-based mindsets in my psyche from a young age were so normalized, I didn't realize how much sexual trauma and religious trauma I'd experienced until after I got married and started having kids. I didn't feel as desirous of my husband as I thought I was supposed to. I blamed myself, and resented him. The lackluster, forced "passion" turned into what felt like a canyon between us, and the pain really came to a head when my husband began experiencing mysterious nerve pain throughout his whole body, which led to a 2.5 year disability and depression for him. I carried the financial responsibility for our family, feeling trapped in my body with an autoimmune disorder I developed during this stressful time. I remember walking on eggshells every single day, terrified to upset my husband, unable to even sleep normally at night, waking up with bloody bedding from the sores I had all over my body from the autoimmune disorder I had. 

I'd had several wake-up calls throughout the years to face my demons and begin healing childhood wounds, but this time, it was a life or death situation as both my husband and I struggled with ideas of how to end the struggle for good. Honestly, it was our kids that kept us in the game of life as we each began to navigate the seemingly insurmountable pain we'd been carrying for decades. The resolve to LIVE was activated. 

"The pain in my life is SO big, whatever scary things are 'out there' in the unknown can't possibly be worse than THIS," I remember telling myself. So I took the terrifying leaps I'd avoided all my life, looking at the most vulnerable, wounded parts of me:

My sexuality. My spirituality. My self-worth. 

ALL of which were, of course, intimately tied to one another.

 Within this vulberable place, I committed myself to becoming the woman I'd long ago dreamt I could be, and I discovered a kind of healing, freedom, and wholeness I didn't even know was possible. That feeling that anything was possible for me was reignited; something I hadn't felt since I was a little girl. 

Since then, I've been on a mission to empower and equip others, especially women, to LIVE with radical courage, freedom, and wholeness. 

Our days may be numbered, but that doesn't mean our best days are behind us.
